Behind the Scenes Horse Studio Photography Session

A behind the scenes look at a recent horse photography session using portable studio flash lighting equipment.

The safety of the horse and handler is always the priority for equine photography sessions and each horse is slowly introduced and de-sensitised to the lighting equipment from a distance prior to starting the session.

Black background studio photography sessions for horses can be done in large double carports, stable blocks, barns, breezeways, indoor arenas or large hay sheds that have enough empty space for the horse, handler and equipment.

Low key black background portraits can also be done outdoors, however additional assistants are needed to hold the light stands and soft boxes if there is any wind.

You can also see that both horses were on lead ropes for the photographs which were later removed in photoshop.
